Fiber of Fine Arts Show at Chicago Botanical Gardens

THE SHOW IS HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND!

You can still go Saturday or Sunday, November 5th and 6th, from 10-5 at the Chicago Botanical Gardens. The art work is wonderful. Items are $5 to hundreds of dollars. My work is featured with the sewing and knitting guild items. The quilting, and weaving guilds each have a separate building to show their items for sale. There is a fantastic fashion show at 11:00 on Saturday. The quilt show is so nice too. And of course you can meet Debby Wada at Kasuri Dye Works--she sells the kimono by the yard. Exquisite Kimono! I visited Douglas Dawson Gallery-Chicago

Yesterday, I visited the exhibit, "Farm to Factory" at Douglas Dawson Gallery. I was impressed with the gallery and the exhibit of kimono. I loved the colorful and geometric designed kimono as well as the older indigo dyed shibori kimono. This exhibit and sale was from the collection of Asiatica, a fine clothing store in Kansas City, and the gallery.

Overview: Clothing’s ability to express and convey information such as age, class, marital status, or social condition is not limited to a single culture or locale but is truly universal. Japanese kimonos are no exception with features such as sleeve length or decoration offering the viewer information about the wearer. This exhibition explores the role that traditional motifs, techniques, and modernization played in the development of pattern design in women’s kimono and haori, a short kimono-like jacket, during the Taishô period (1912–1926) and the early Shôwa period (1926–1989).

During the move of my studio, I was able to find time to go to the "Bead and Button Show" in early June. I have beautiful new beads. I am excited to start the next purses. I loved the show! It is an annual show in Milwaukee, WI USA

The first step is to strengthen the fabric. I apply iron on interfacing to the back of the fabric. In this picture you can see two flower pins that were made from the same fabric.
